About clara besnard

Recently graduated from La Cambre's Master's program in accessory design, French artist Clara Besnard blends with the design in which she has been immersed since the start of her studies to a performative artistic approach drawn from her experiences in theater and film making. Seeking to reappropriate the themes of identity and embodiment, she disfigures then "refigures" through ornamentation, emotions and time. She speaks about our face, which is our own, and which does not last. The face that unites us as human beings but also makes us unique.

Mostly stimulated by the art of composition, she chooses to only create from fragments of existing materials and objects. She invents characters and stories, playing with the narrative aspect that objects get when placed in relation to the body.

Her desire to shape projects almost exclusively from recycled materials not only gives a second life to her surroundings, but also reinforces the emotional and narrative aspect of the materials. The result is the creation of unique accessories, each shaped according to the soul of its component, giving her design pieces a value that ambiguously places them at the status of art pieces.
